were hustling him toward the lobby.
"Let's get out of here," Kristen insisted.
They were already on their feet and headed for the rear entrance when a young woman stood up and thrust a piece of paper in Kristen's face. "May I have your autograph, Miss Masters?" the woman pleaded.
"I think you've mistaken the lady for someone else," Charlie lied, elbowing his way past the young woman.
Kristen had already made it to the door, but it was obvious now that others had recognized her. The thwarted autograph seeker with her empty piece of paper looked up at Charlie and gave him an impish smile, shrugged her shoulders and sat back down at her table. "Geez," she muttered, "you'd think I'd said something to piss her off." The girl's escort tried to console her. At the same time he was glowering at Charlie. That bothered Charlie only because the young man was built like a bulldozer and appeared to have about the same amount of reasoning power.
"Better tell your skinny girlfriend to be nicer to people," he grunted, "otherwise I just might have to put a couple of dents in that shit-eatin' smirk of hers."
Charlie ignored the young man and followed Kristen. When he got to their car she was leaning against it with her arms folded.
